Subway (April 24, 2011)

Ya!! there is a subway in my area. It is only like 10 minutes away from my apartment. It is pretty sweet. I found it last Monday and plan to go a lot...too bad it is way expensive but I haven't had a real sandwich in a while so it is way nice. Last week I had a blt...I think on the footlong there were 2 slices of bacon so I was pretty impressed. It was almost like I was back in America and as fake as the bacon was it was the best I have had in a long time...it was such a good day. I had octupus pizza but I have had that before. So that isn't too exciting but everything else was pretty normal.....for me. But the new missionary struggles. It is cool to see how much I have grown and changed and what I have learned to like. Way cool experience.

Ya so my new companion is Australian and is pretty cool. He says some defferent things like it is heaps fun and stuff like that...we are having fun here in Ogaki.

The Tokyo missionaries might be going back next week but no one really knows. Our zone leader says a few might start going back but we are not really sure...it is funny that they came for like one transfer and now they might leave. What can you do...just keep working. It will be sad to see them go but that's alright.

Investigators..........................We got a new one...kind of. She is way cool. She is 15 and is always happy. Most Japanese people don't act like her but she started coming to english class. It works really nice because her homework is to read the Book of Mormon and she does it every week. She has a great attitude about reading it even though it is hard english. She also wants to come to church this week so we are really excited for her.

I hope every one had a great Easter and continues to remember the great gift that the resurrection is. It truly is a great gift that everyone gets...no matter what. It is pretty exciting if you ask me.

bamboo! (April 17, 2011)

Ya I ate bamboo this week. I know I thought only panda bears ate things of that nature but apparently that is not true. Humans can also eat bamboo. It was pretty good but it was a hard. It was kind of like a potato but absolutely different. I'm not going to lie I would definately eat it again. I also saw another miracle this week. We received those costco chocolate muffins...you know the giants ones...ya those from a member. It was like the best thing ever. It was way sweet. I haven't tasted something that chocolatey since my parents sent me a package...just kidding but seriously they were delicious. Too bad they got eaten with in like 5 minutes of receiving them. It's ok they were good.

I have been thinking lately about the blessing that it is to come on a mission. Let me give you an example...I was talking to this guy on the train a while ago and even though he didn't have too much interest in the church we talked about why I was here. He said that it was such a great opportunity to come here. I have been able to learn about a new culture and a new language. It really has been a great experience to learn new things and meet new people. It is also fun to meet all types of new people that I get to interact with almost everyday. In that way it is awesome. In another way all the blessings that you and others receive. I was talking to my bishop's wife who lives in an area I previously served in and her daughter served a mission. She talked to me for like 10 minutes about all the blessings she has received because her daughter has served a mission. Also I know my parents have received many blessings. Really it is the best thing a young man can do. All those blessings don't include all the miracles I have seen and all the things I have learned. It really is a blessing and I don't even realize half of it.

Continue working hard back home and put your trust in the Lord.

Take care

Conference (April 10, 2011)

So basically General Conference was awesome. I really did enjoy all the talks. It really is fun to hear the the Prophets of God. I really enjoyed Elder Oaks talk about desire along with many other talks that I can't even remember. I am really excited to read and study them again. I also really like the one about pain. I really thought he started the talk out funny and had a good message. I also liked President Uchtdorf's talk, I liked both of them but the Road to Damascus part was really good.

So after conference we started heading back to our area because we couldn't watch it at out church. We were waiting at the bus stop and this member who happens to be black offered me some jerky. But unfortunately this wasn't beef jerky. This was squid jerky. Ummm. Unfortunately, I did not know this at that time. He says to me that all the old people eat this...it way good man. I looked at it and had this I hope that he wouldn't make me eat it but he did. Not knowing what it was I didn't resist and I ate it. It was way chewy and tasted like dead fish but the worst part was that that taste stayed in my mouth until I got home. It was Sunday so I couldn't buy gum even though I am pretty sure that was an ox in the mire situation.

I had interviews with President Baird this past week. It was very good. He really does know how to make you feel good. It would be better if I understood the big words he complimented me with but maybe one day I'll understand. I am pretty sure my vocabulary has increased after he became mission president. For example in this mission we are very big with working with people in our propinquity. Actually it is working really well. We have a potential investigator that works at the store next to us just because we are nice to him everytime we see him...maybe eventually he will show some interest. I try to tone down the level of difficulty when I write my emails just so people of all ages can read and understand what I have to say.

So our next english class program started. It went really well. We had some new students come and we taught our lesson on faith and there were people in the class teaching us about faith. It was very good to see them understand the principle of faith. It was really good and at the end we gave them a reading assignment and that was to read in the Book of Mormon. It was really good because the American in our ward has learned some languages just from reading the Book of Mormon so he can testify about how helpful it is and that is actally works.

This week we taught this man named Brenden. He is an American from New York. He is very fun to talk with and teach. We had a very good lesson with him and I really think he has a lot of potential. We finished the lesson by talking with faith. He told us that he has a hard time believing in Joseph Smith but he has faith in Jesus Christ. It takes the same faith to believe that Joseph is a Prophet of God because he has never met Joseph Smith. He said he would pray about it and continue to read the Book of Mormon because he wants to know why so many people claim that This is Jesus Christ's Church. I am really excited for him.

I am grateful for living prophets and the opportunity we had to listen to them this last weekend. It is really great to belong to The true Church which was restored through Joseph Smith.

Take care and have a good week

General Conference (April 3, 2011)

Man I am so jealous...everyone got to see general conference this weekend...man. I am way excited to get to see it next weekend but still. Let me give you an example, me having to wait an extra week for general conference is like having to wait an extra week for the premiere of the office season 8 but I think I will be able to make it. In order to prepare for this wonderful opportunity of watching conference, I have been studying last general conference. It was really good. I really have learned a lot after reading all these talks.

That is way cool baseball season has started. I really dont know when it starts here but I saw some high shool players playing some ball. It was way...natsukashii??? Ya it brought back memories?? i think that's right but was it was way fun.

This week we have finally started to see sakura. Sakura are really pretty cherry blossoms. They are starting to come out and that means it is warming up!! yay! I wasn't able to see them last year becuase I got here in May and I probably won't be able to see them next year so this is really like a once in a lifetime opportunity...maybe. They are so pretty and they are everywhere. They only last about a week to so they go by very quickly.

This week was pretty cool because we met with a less active. He was very nice and is the only member in his family. He was also able to come to church last week. He told us that he is preparing to serve a mission. That was really cool to hear. He is working full time right now to save money to go on a mission. That is really cool. We are really excited to help him prepare for this wonderful opportunity. He is really smart and a really good guy the only problem is his work interferes with him coming to church...but that was really a great opportunity.

We are starting a new english class program here so that is pretty sweet. We even created a syllabus and you can tell that we actually did it because how else would I be able to spell syllabus correctly. That is way above my spelling level. But seriously it is way cool. If people miss class we are going to go to their house and teach a make up lesson and the whole class will be using the Book of Mormon. So I really think it is going to go well. They also all have homework from the Book of Mormon. So it is really good...I think.

Our investigators are doing pretty good...I guess. We have one really good one but the others aren't really progressing. One also kind of dropped becuase she can't become a member becuase her family is Buddist, which still is something my mind can't comprehend but besides that life is good. We are starting some new finding programs with the ward so those are looking good. I am glad that we have a prophet on the earth today that we can listen to on a regular basis. Have a great week.
